Job Description:
MISSION Responsible for the design and analysis of hardware and
firmware integration for new products and modifications to existing
products. Additional responsibilities may include some project
management and the ability to work on cross-functional product
development teams. Basic research may be done during early project
feasibility studies or for new concept investigations. Assignments
will be broad in nature, requiring initiative, originality, and
ingenuity. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop hardware and firmware specification documents (i.e.
Technical Design Specification-TDS) for new products
- Participate in new product design as a member of design teams
and interacts with other design team members during the design
process
- Originates electrical designs for new products per requirements
of the new product definition.
- May originate some software and firmware design for new
products
- Determine design requirements for safety, emissions, and
susceptibility
- Identify interaction and effects on other products, including
necessary standardization for product lines to ensure
consistency
- Specify component parts to be used in designs
- Participate in design reviews and engineering verification
activities
- Responsible for meeting design deadlines specified in product
development plans
- Track costs, time, and changes on assigned project
- Report on design status to the Project Manager and Director of
New Product Development
- Document design and tests
- Interact with Production during design for the purpose of
addressing and avoiding possible production related problems with
designs
- Define inspections, tests, and test equipment or fixtures
necessary for production of new products
- Define production accept/reject criteria for new designs
(specifications and tolerances)
- Work with the Production Engineer in transferring new designs
and technology to production and Customer Service
- Determines requirements for verification, evaluation, and/or
validation testing
- Specifies test plans for field functional verification
tests
- Work with various agencies to meet compliance requirements and
approvals
- May participate with the Customer Service group in solving
customer support problems
- Develops modifications to existing products as part of the ECO
process
- Other duties as assigned JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or a
related science WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 1 year of relative design experience and proven project
management skills SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE
- Board level design using 16/32 bit processors
- Experience designing circuit boards using Altium
- Experienced in embedded, multitasking applications(firmware)
using C and Assembly languages
- Familiarity with compiler, linker, emulator and debugger used
in the development of embedded application
- Familiarity with compliance testing, agency approvals and
process, including, but not limited to:
- UL, CSA, IEC, and CE
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact successfully with others in a team
setting
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines PHYSICAL
